BASIC FIA (FLOW
INJECTION ANALYSIS) LAB
|
|
This excercise demonstrate something of the versatility and the
speed of flow analysis techniques with modern and flexible equipment. Spectrophotometric detection of copper with simple
reaction is used as a model reaction (the formation of Cu-NH3
complex which has a strong blue color)

DETECTION OF NITRITES AND NITRATES LAB
|
|
Numerous
analytical methods exist and the reduction of nitrate to nitrite for
quantitative colorimetry has proven to be both sensitive
and very reliable for flow injection analysis. A copperized
cadmium column is used to catalyze the reduction of nitrates into nitrites
in a reproducible and quantitative fashion. Nitrites will react with
sulfanilamide to form azo dyes that will then
couple with N-(1-Naphthyl) ethylenediamine dihydrochloride to form magenta colored solution.

CALCIUM ION SELECTIVE ELECTRODE
|
|
Virtual lab with new design and engineering solutions. Goal of the laboration is to illustrate one of many calcium
concentration detection techniques. Ca-ion selective electrode gives
voltage when it is submerged in Ca2+ solution,
the voltage is proportional to the ion concentration.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
|
|
VIRTUAL LABS have been tested
on both Microsoft Windows XP and Mac OSX 10. Choice of web browser is not
important as long the browser supports Macromedia Flash. To experience
VIRTUAL LABS at full the user should have Macromedia Flash Player version 6
or later. Macromedia Flash plug in (player) is installed automatically then
the lab is run for the first time. New version of the player can be installed
from http://www.macromedia.com
